Jack is one of our many Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprentices, who works with Orchard Works Joinery, who have worked with Derby College to produce good apprentices before.
Starting his apprenticeship in only September, Jack has shown remarkable dedication with high attendance and punctuality. He has made an impressive progress against the knowledge, skills and behaviours of his apprenticeship while his off-the-job log has consistent, high-quality, descriptive entries.
Jack’s assessor praises his excellent start, noting that his tutors highlight his strong practical abilities. These exceptional practical skills have propelled Jack’s progress and earned him the opportunity to represent the college in the 2024 Institute of Carpentry regional Merlane competition, where he produced great work under immense pressure. The whole team were very proud.
Employer feedback during site visits has been consistently positive. Jack is highly respected by his colleagues and works on complex projects, typically reserved for year 2 or level 3 carpentry apprentices.
Jacks demonstrated his dedication in his own workspace at home which he uses for additional projects. All in his personal time. This dedication positions Jack brilliantly, to achieve his future ambitions and career aspirations.
Since the initial nomination, Jack has further represented the college. Impressed by our entrant’s performance at the Merlane competition, the Institute of Carpentry invited our apprentices to represent us at the Carpenters Craft Competition 2024. Rising to the challenge, Jack’s work was recently submitted and is, as we speak being judged in London.
Good luck, Jack!
